Pacific Science Center
Astronomy Weekend In The High Desert
Aug. 14-16, 2009

Astronomy
Join Pacific Science Center for an incredible weekend of astronomy and natural discovery. Led by a team of enthusiastic Pacific Science Center instructors, there will be a variety of hands-on, family-friendly activities and programs throughout the weekend. This trip is sure to be an "out of this world" experience for the whole family!

During the day, we will learn about our sun and solar system, constellations and their mythology, and comets. Some of the hands-on activities may include creating your own starfinder and sun clock, building your own telescope, working with sun spotting paper, creating a comet, and deciphering a message from space! After dark, discover the night sky like you've never seen it before. We will also take two field trips to visit the nearby Goldendale Observatory and Maryhill Stonehenge.

Perseid Meteor Shower
The Goldendale Observatory is a unique facility that offers a variety of astronomy programs to the public. Our group will participate in the Observatory's evening program, where we will be able to view the night sky through their 24.5 inch telescope. The Maryhill Stonehenge is a full size replica of the famous English structure. Because it is nearly identical to the original, a trip to the Maryhill Stonehenge will give us a great opportunity to conduct sun-related activities.

Cost:
  • $250 per adult
  • $150 per child under 14
Cost includes two nights accommodation, all meals, materials for activities, and everything else that will happen this weekend. We provide all the telescopes. A portion of your proceeds even returns to benefit Pacific Science Center! You are responsible for your own transportation to and from Brooks Memorial State Park.

Participation in this Destination Discovery weekend program is a benefit of membership with Pacific Science Center. Not a member? Not a problem! You can join or renew when registering for the trip.
